Inspirational Quote Art (Perfect Grad Gift!)

Sunday, April 24, 2016

I have seen inspirational quote artwork pop up all over the place. In fact, I just bought my mom some artwork for Mother’s Day. I thought I would try my hand at it.

All you need are some scrap pieces of wood, wood glue, spray paint, and stick on letters.
The quote that inspired me was: All things are difficult before they are easy. –Thomas Fuller
I made a 6 inch by 5 inch box with leftover pieces of scrap wood. I just used wood glue to assemble.

This is the back of the box.

I wanted the EASY to stand out so I spray painted the box gold at the bottom.

Then I placed my letters and spray painted over them.

Peel your letters off and it’s a masterpiece!

Custom Welcome Sign

Saturday, April 23, 2016

Have you ever seen something online and thought REALLY?! That’s how much you’re charging?
I saw something similar on etsy and thought I can make this with scraps around the house!
I glued three pieces of wood together and stained them Red Oak by Minwax.
The wood letters are from Michaels Craft Store. They were painted white and glued to the wood.
I also spray painted a mason jar white and attached it with Velcro.

Our family name and the year was hand painted.
Lastly, I drilled holes halfway down and used decorative ribbon to tie knots along the side.

Just in time for spring!

Customize your welcome sign by:
  • changing the welcome to something else like your family name
  • replacing the flowers in the mason jar with something seasonal

Mother's Day Planter

Sunday, April 17, 2016

Remind mom of your favorite memories all year long!

You need a wood planter, smooth and clear of dirt and dust.
You also need laser printed photos on plain printer paper. I chose black and white photos.
I used Liquitex gel medium and painted the side of the planter and the front of the picture.

When you lay the picture flat (picture facing down), use a credit card to smooth out any air pockets. Putting too much of the gel on the planter or on the picture can cause bubbling and the ink won’t adhere to the box.

Wait at least 24 hours and then take a slightly wetted paper towel to the planter. Lightly scrub off the paper and your picture will appear!

My planter was for a momma who just delivered her baby girl so I customized the box with the baby’s name and birthdate.

Ideas for your Mother’s Day Planter:

·         Use photos from the past to remind mom of all the good times you shared

·         Incorporate wedding photos or pictures from another big day

·         Customize the planter with your mom’s favorite quote
