What To Do with Chipped Craigslist Furniture

Sunday, November 22, 2015

Have you ever shown up to pick an item from Craigslist and the picture and the item just don’t match? Think of an online dating profile picture that advertises one thing and what was advertised was not promised on the date.
I needed new storage in my living room and went to pick up a cabinet. When I showed up to find pieces missing from the top the seller said, “It’s not of good quality”. I felt like I already committed and paid.

So what do you do with chipped Craigslist furniture?

1.       Fill the chipped wood (or in this case cardboard-esque material)

Use a stainable wood filler.

2.       Paint it.

High gloss paint will show more imperfections. I choose darker colors when painting less than ideal wood.

Is it perfect, not quite. But a blemish on a chalkboard painted cabinet versus a hunk of missing cheap cardboard material is much more tolerable.

One Year Blogging Anniversary

Sunday, November 15, 2015

Everyone has their own way of giving back. My school started a baby clothes drive so infants at a local hospital go home with clothes to wear. My husband and I sponsor children at Christmas time by purchasing something from their wish list.
In celebration of my one year blogging anniversary I’m excited to announce a new endeavor. I will be gifting a student with a customized desk with their choice in design!
I can’t wait to get started! Check back in for updates!

3 Comforts your Guest Bathroom is Missing

Sunday, November 8, 2015

1.       Extra TP

Have you ever been out in public and whoops! no toilet paper in the stall? I know I have. Your guests should be able to see where you keep your extra TP just in case it runs out rather than shuffling through your bathroom cabinets moving aside your tile scum soap.

2.       Toiletry Basket

This tip is mostly for overnight guests. You would see a basket like this at a wedding or prom. At my wedding I needed a bleach pen to clean up a chocolate stain. You never know what your overnight guest may have missed in the packing. Avoid the hassle of describing where the nearest grocery store is for your visitor during a late night disaster.

3.       A Candle

Whether you’re hosting a party or just your best friend, you never know when a clean scent may be in need. A candle like cotton or rainwater is usually a good fit for bathrooms. Stay away from candles named after foods like vanilla cupcake.

How to Completely Change a Desk in Two Simple Steps

Sunday, November 1, 2015

Do you have a couple of scratches or nicks on your desk? Embrace the imperfection and revamp your desk. One big scratch could ruin an otherwise perfect piece. Embrace the imperfections to achieve a new look.

Step one: Sand your piece to make more obvious scratches. Make them purposeful in creases, corners, or around places that are already scratched. Edges are a good place to start to see how much or how little you want to sand.

Use a stain pen or a Q-tip to apply the stain to the scratches. Wipe clean with a cloth.

Step two: Add new pulls.
